Nils Haldorsen Explains Why Everyone Should Take ‘First Steps’
You’ve probably heard “First Steps” discussed in Parkway’s announcements on Sunday mornings. Maybe you’re curious about this class, and maybe you haven’t thought much about it…
But whether you’re new to Parkway or have attended for years…First Steps is for you!
This two-session class is designed to teach you about Parkway’s values, history, and mission and to connect you with ministries that are perfect for you.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM FIRST STEPS?
Nils Haldorsen, Executive Director at Parkway, explains what attendees can expect during the First Steps class.
“You can expect to connect with others, both new members and long-time members. You can also expect to learn and/or confirm some of your personality traits and spiritual giftings and, most importantly, where you can fit in to give back to the Kingdom of God.”
The class provides attendees with:
Parkway church history
Personality and spiritual gift assessments
Ministry guidance
After taking First Steps, Nils says people “are excited to be able to use their God-given talents… They’re thrilled to offer suggestions of areas we can serve others more fully.”
Nils encourages both new and seasoned members to attend.
“It reveals or confirms who you are as a person, some of your tendencies and their giftings,” he explains. “The class also gives you a chance to connect with others whom you might not have known.”

JULI FUGATE GOT CONNECTED.
Previously a member of Parkway, she attended First Steps after moving back seven years later. “Nils was the First Steps instructor. He welcomed me, and we discovered some common history. During First Steps, I learned of my gifts and where they fit with Parkway ministries,” she shared.
Juli also got connected to Kidz Parkway. “Heather [Miller] and I met and discovered we have a common work history,” Juli continued. “I was surprised to learn… all the variety of ministries at Parkway and there is something for all to fit and serve. First Steps is the door God has opened for those that want to serve and contribute.”
MARCUS AND IRIS REYES CAUGHT PARKWAY’S VISION.
Marcus and Iris attended First Steps after returning to Parkway last July. “We took First Steps because we understood that having a fresh vision of the direction that the church is heading in is necessary to grow together and build community,” Iris explained. “I appreciate how the leaders of First Steps carried Pastor’s vision and imparted it to all who were in attendance.”
